The title is as spelt on one of the labels on the back (Saltcoats is often spelt as Saltcoates or Saltcotes ). A second label states it was painted in 1917 and there is a handwritten date of August 17th, 1917. A third label reads “Farmer Hardman”.
The painting was donated by Susan Swatridge in memory of her parents, Edna (nee Parkinson) and Stanley Brown. They married in 1940 and lived at 29 East Beach, Lytham all their married life. Susan remembers this painting hanging in her home from her youth and thinks it may be one of a number of pictures her parents bought for the house they were about to move into. Her mother died in 1994 and Stanley moved to 61 Westby Street, Lytham in 1995. Her father died, aged 100, in 2015. He had been a member of the Friends of the Lytham St Annes Art Collection as well as many other organisations. ARTIST Click Here |
