James Leslie Schofield was born in Burnley in 1910 to James Herbert Schofield, a stone and slate merchant (1880-1947), and his wife Annie, nee Stanworth (1877-1952). In 1911 James was staying in Briarfield, Lancashire with his mother and his maternal grandmother, Dorothy Stanworth, born 1846.
By 1924, James and his parents were living in St Annes on Sea. His father, James Herbert Schofield, was listed as a manager in 1924 street records and linked to J L Schofield Ltd in 1934. James Leslie became an electrical engineer and contractor from a young age, so in all probability this was his firm in St Albans Road. In 1936 James Leslie married Agnes Amy Amelia Webster on the Fylde. His father died in 1947 and when Annie died on the Fylde in 1952, probate was granted to James Leslie Schofield “an electrical engineer”. Their address was then 50 East Beach, Lytham St Annes. Agnes died in 1969 and James Leslie in the following year. They were buried in the family grave at Lytham Park Cemetery.
