Albert Edward Bradburn was born in Salford in 1867 to William, a plumber and glaze maker, and his wife, Maria.  In 1881 he was working as a telephone clerk in Salford.

He married Annie Burt in Chorlton, Manchester in 1908. In the 1911 census he was employed as a clerk in the city surveyor's office, whilst living in Hale, Cheshire.
